Today is a diamond in the setting of my soul

The Hymn of Life

By Gregg TeHennepe

Hymn of Life

The wagon was broke down, there was no place left go
My family was weary, my horses’ heads hanging low
I thought of our home a thousand miles away
And this prairie that goes on until the break of day

When a voice on high pulled me to my feet
It’s the wind across the waves, it’s the crows above the wheat
It’s the silence of the stars, it’s the drumming of the rain
The hymn of life is calling to me again
The hymn of life is calling to me again

Well we reached the homestead in the early morning light
We’d lost our youngest to the fever in the middle of the night
With no home and no hope we thought our end was surely near
When that old song came and washed away my fears

Now the kids are all gone and our sun is sinking low
Though life’s been unforgiving I have vanquished all my foes
But for the one that’s walking with me who will have the final word
My old friend death hums the tune that I have always heard

The world is beautiful.
